About OL’ SPORE

I have always loved being in nature, looking at bugs, smelling the freshness of the pine trees — embracing the stories it tells. We live amongst the rich soil and systems that manage and connect entire networks, emitting energy and bounty to create and sustain life. Along the way my life brought me into the world of Italian culture, embraced whole-heartedly by my husband and his family. Backed by generations of mushroom foraging, he shared their traditions of foraging. From forest to table, enriched with olive oil, pasta, wine, and that day’s harvest. Ol’ Spore grew from my discovery and love of the fascinating world of edible fungi, the choice mushrooms of the culinary world.

It started with foraging porcini, their penny copper cap peeking through the grass like a secret. They quickly became my favorite mushroom, my muse in much of my artwork and watercolor paintings. A series of mini porcini watercolors resulted in one favorite of the bunch, one that caught my eye over the rest. I had to have it on a hoodie, so that is what I did. A hoodie with my favorite mushroom watercolor, the Boletus Edulis, that later turned into a full detailed embroidered design born from countless hours of design and an obsession to find perfect thread colors.

Ol’ Spore tells the story of a journey to find when, in the end, we become found ourselves, Foraged By The Forest. A journey of searching in a space where we are free to feel the invisible tethers connecting us back to our roots. Setting out to seek the forest’s treasures and leaving with a feeling that can only be found by teaming up with nature. Wear Ol’ Spore to share your love of mushrooms, foraging, and nature, and as a reminder to value the soil, our Earth, that makes it all abundantly possible.

You walk into the fauna to find, to forage. A feeling forged by your feet on the ground and the fog on your cheek. A favorable scent meets you as the scenic flora greets you. The vast sea of green holds you as you search below. You see a flicker, a wink in front of a forgotten path and you hope. You reach for that fragile moment without having the faintest clue that this fortune, this freed feeling in time, was the forest reaching out to say,

“I found you.”
